<title>If anyone was wondering what Bob Spickard was up to nowadays...</title>
<link>http://guitardiner.com/cgi-bin/newforum/gforum.cgi?post=555038;do=post_view;page=unread#555038</link>
<description>He plays guitar with some buddies at the American Legion on Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, CA on Tuesday afternoons. My folks belong and know Bob. Here&#039;s picture of the gang.
For those of you who don&#039;t know, Bob Spickard plays with the Chantays. Back in the day he co-wrote a little ditty called Pipeline. Here&#039;s a video of him playing it in Huntington Beach a couple of years ago with members of the Surfaris and the Del-Tones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sdilrYmycU

<description>Well it&#039;s been another instrument free day on the garage sale front but a modicum of success in finding CD&#039;s. First stop was based on an add listing &amp;quot;100&#039;s of CD&#039;s&amp;quot; . There were city wide garage sales advertised as well but the one I was most interested in startrf late which ended up being a good thing. as I ended up being the first one there once they opened. Great selection of guitar rock. metal and punk with some still in the original wrappers. Prices ranged from $1.00 to $5.00 and I was able to pick up about 20 CD&#039;d at an average cost of about $2.50. Several other stops also had decent selections and I ended up with 36 CD&#039;s total all for less than $100.00.. Among the titles picked up:
Johnny A- Sometime Tuesday Marning
Arthur Adams - Stomp the florr (Blues)
Joe Bonamassa - a new day yesterday*
Gary Burton ( With Pat Methieny, Will Lee, Peter Erskine, Mitch Foreman) Reunion
Cheap Trick Budokan II
Crowded House -Crowded House
Crowded House - The Very Best of Crowded House
The Cure - Wild Mood Swings*
ELP- The Best of ELP
Aretha Franklin - the Very Best of
Head East - The Best of
Eric Johnson - Venus Isle
B.B. King - Live at the Appollo
Led Zepplin - How the West Was Won *
Lowen &amp;amp; Navarro - Pendulum
Madona - Exotica
Steve Morse Band - Stressfest
Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna
Liz Phair - Whip Smart
Rainbow - The Best of
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Stadium Arcadium8, Californication*, What Hits
Rush - Retrospective I *
Boz Scaggs - Come On Home
Simon &amp;amp; Garfunkel - The Best of
Smashing Pumpkins 0 Greatest Hits*
SuperTramp - Breakfast in America
The Verve Pipe - Villains
John Williams - The Guitar is the Song
Stevie Wonder - Original Musiquarium I, VOLUME I
Peter Yourn - musicforthemorningafter
Pulp Fiction Soundtrack
The Last Days of Disco
Living in Oblivion: the 80&#039;s Greatest His Volume 5
* Still in original wrapper seal unbroken.
A couple of these were my wife&#039;s picks and the sound tracks and 80 greatest hits were for an extended Partry Mix Play list I have for work events.
It&#039;s going to take some time to get these into iTunes not to mention getting them all listened to.

<title>Lugar primary defeat</title>
<link>http://guitardiner.com/cgi-bin/newforum/gforum.cgi?post=554987;do=post_view;page=unread#554987</link>
<description>Some headlines characterize Richard Lugar&#039;s primary defeat as an indicator of worsening political partisanship and further erosion of the political center. And I guess it is.
But when you read more about it, it&#039;s pretty clear that it&#039;s also indicative of how long-term Congress members have grown completely out of touch with their constituents, and that the constituents are fed up with it.
I don&#039;t agree with the policies that tea partiers are pushing, but they&#039;re right when they say Washington is out of touch with the people.</description>

<title>bad accidents at both ends of our street</title>
<link>http://guitardiner.com/cgi-bin/newforum/gforum.cgi?post=554976;do=post_view;page=unread#554976</link>
<description>Our street is about 2.5 miles long, out in the country. Last week a roaring engine woke me up, bit later I hear sirens out the wazoo. 17 year old in a pickup on his way to high school (likely) blew a stop sign and killed a 25 year old on a motorcycle. Next day at the other end, a 16 and 17 year old pulled out in front of a semi and were killed, another guy caught up was injured when his car flipped over. Day after that, two high schoolers (pretty sure) pulled right out in front of me and I barely stopped in time. God they think they are immortal at that age, as did I. God help all of them and their families.

<title>I'd like to recommend a CD...</title>
<link>http://guitardiner.com/cgi-bin/newforum/gforum.cgi?post=554967;do=post_view;page=unread#554967</link>
<description>Now dn&#039;t dismiss it out of hand, it is a colection of covers and they are some really great songs done very well. It is the new Counting Crows album Underwater Sunshine. I had some time to kill and ended up in a Target store and bought it completely on a whim. It is te best album I have ever bought on a whim and one of the best I&#039;ve bought in years in any case. How can guitars, a Hammond B3, a mandolin, an accordian, and piano (plus vox, bass, and drums) not be good? Plus, now I have several other bands that I have to hunt down and check out... hw on earth did I miss Big Star? Tender Mercies too... Need to get a copy of Ohh La La too and some Fairport Convention (I didnt know that was Richard Thompson)... This album has opened some doors for me... for you too I hope!
You can hear clips here: http://www.countingcrows.com/main They aren&#039;t just clips but the whole album in it&#039;s entirety... amazing. I guess they figure if you hear it you&#039;ll buy it.
The tracks are:
1: Untitled (Love Song):The Romney Rye from the LP Highway 1 (2009)
2: Start Again: Teenage Fanclub from the LP Songs From Northern Britain (1997)
3: Hospital: Coby Brown from a demo with Immergluck (2012)
4: Mercy: Tender Mercies from the LP Tender Mercies (2011)
5: Meet On The Ledge: Fairport Convention (Richard Thompson) from the LP What We Did Our Holidays (1969)
6: Like Teenage Gravity: Kasey Anderson from the LP Nowhere Nights (2010)
7: Amie: Pure Prarie League from the LP Bustin&#039; Out (1972)
8: Coming Around: Travis from the LP Coming Around (2000)
9: Ohh La La: Faces from the LP Faces (1973)
10: All My Failures: Taylor Goldsmith from the Daytrotter Session July 8. 2010
11: Four White Stallions: Tender Mercies from the LP Tender Mercies
12: Return Of The Grievous Angel: Gram Parsons from the LP Grievous Angel (1974)
13: Jumping Jesus: Sordid Humor from the EP Tony Don&#039;t (1989)
14: You Ain&#039;t Goin&#039; Nowhere: Bob Dylan and the Band (1966)/The Byrds Sweetheart of the Rodeo (1968)
15: The Ballad of El Goodo: Big Star (Alex Chilton) from the LP #1 Record (1972)
The CD liner notes are very good too, instead of lyrics they tell something about each song and original band recording.
I am very impressed with thie CD and highly recommend it. Of course you can probably figure a way to rip it from the tracks they posted but it is well worth the price to buy it and if there isn&#039;t something on it that touches you... I don&#039;t know what to say. Buy it.
Adam also lists several good online music sites: http://www.absolutepunk.net/ http://www.katiedarbyrecommends.com/ http://www.rslblog.com/ and https://www.daytrotter.com/ daytrotter seems to be a great deal for 2 bucks a month.
Oh.. and hello all!!

<description>Just had to come back and see where it all started in my internet guitar obsession. I hope all is well for you folks (I did note a few familiar names have passed ....).
Glad to see some of the guys from OJam are still around (I stumbled upon an old CD of pictures from OJ 1 a few months ago...wow it was like 13 years ago ?? really ???)
Life and time definitely changes and mellows one...at 48 I don&#039;t take a lot of life&#039;s problems too seriously anymore. I have 3 kids to keep me running and find a little time to play some in the basement (a Gibby Les Paul and Tele now..only 2 I know).
I hope to swing by more often

<title>Garage sale season kicks off.</title>
<link>http://guitardiner.com/cgi-bin/newforum/gforum.cgi?post=554896;do=post_view;page=unread#554896</link>
<description>No killer instrument deals, at least so far but I did score some CD&#039;s to get the season off to a musical start.
The Neville Brothers - walkin&#039; in the shadow of life
Cocteau Twins - Four-Calendar Cafe
Cocteau Twins - Treasure
Concrete Blonde - Mexican Moon
Garbage - G
Natalie Merchant - Ophelia
Sixpence None The Richer - Sixpence None The Richer
REO Speedwagon - The Hits
Prince - The Hits/The b-sides
The Hunger Games songs from district 12 and beyond (Soundtrack)
All scored for between $1 &amp;amp; $3 overall avg under $2.
Now that I have almost 1600 cd&#039;s loaded into my iTunes I need to move to a larger hard drive.
Three more days of sales to go this week so maybe some additional scores to be had. On the instrument front I missed a drum set today but there is a B.C. Rich guitar listed for one of the sales tomorrow.

<description>Ground to air missiles on Blackheath...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17943864
As far as I am aware, the last time there was anything military on Blackheath was the peasants revolt in 1381. Though I would imagine they might have shoved a barrage balloon or two there in WW2.
Is it actually worth having the Olympics if this is the cost? It&#039;s no longer about sport, just about how big your national penis is.

<title>Voted socialist today for the first time in my life EVER!</title>
<link>http://guitardiner.com/cgi-bin/newforum/gforum.cgi?post=554887;do=post_view;page=unread#554887</link>
<description>Well, I gone and dunnit. London Mayoral elections. I voted for the labour guy. I have always prided myself on being too awkward to vote socialist...I was very proud when the communist party (I was 18!) rejected my application to join on the grounds that I might be an &amp;quot;influence&amp;quot;. They were right. I was only attracted by the outlaw status.
But today I voted for a socialist mayor, and for one reason only. The conservatives want to keep the &amp;quot;traffic flowing&amp;quot; and I am fed up with my city being turned into an urban motorway. Let&#039;s hear it for pedal power and public transport! There ain&#039;t no shame in taking the bus.
We&#039;ll see what happens.

<title>FS/FT: Boss RT-20 Royary Ensemble and First Act Lola CE140</title>
<link>http://guitardiner.com/cgi-bin/newforum/gforum.cgi?post=554879;do=post_view;page=unread#554879</link>
<description>Boss RT-20 Leslie/Uni-Vibe pedal, like new in box and only 125 plus shipping and insurance.
Price cut to 99+shipping and insurance...First Act Lola CE140 series, set neck, transparent blue finish, dead stock, several frets were replaced by a pro, who also smoothed out the fret ends. Exc condition and only $125 plus shipping and no case for this one.
Regarding the First Act Lola, I just treated the Fretboard and polished the guitar. Before I cleaned it up I played it a bit; this guitar has fantastic sustain and can do do pinch harmonics all day long. Mahogany body and neck, long tenon, an Kent Armstrong designed pickups really bring vibrant an complex overtones. These pickups are kind of a cross between a PAF and a Gretsch Filtertrons IMO.
